Introduction

1. Introduce your nursing practice problem and discuss the purpose of your paper.

2. State your PICOT question.

Background of Studies

How Do These Two Articles Support the Nursing Practice Problem You Chose?

1. Discuss how these two articles will be used to answer your PICOT question.

2. Describe how the interventions and comparison groups in the articles compare to those identified in your PICOT question.

Case Study Module 8

Instructions: Read the following case study and answer the reflective questions. Please provide
evidence-based rationales for your answers. APA, 7th ed. must be followed.

Due: Saturday by 23:59 pm

CASE STUDY: Active Labor: Susan Wong

Mrs. Wong, a first-time mother, is admitted to the birthing suite in early labor after
spontaneous rupture of membranes at home. She is at 38 weeks of gestation with a history of
abnormal alpha-fetoprotein levels at 16 weeks of pregnancy.

She was scheduled for ultrasonography to visualize the fetus to rule out an open spinal defect
or Down syndrome, but never followed through. Mrs. Wong and her husband disagreed about
what to do (keep or terminate the pregnancy) if the ultrasonography indicated a spinal
problem, so they felt they did not want this information.

Reflective Questions

1. As the nurse, what priority data would you collect from this couple to help define
relevant interventions to meet their needs?

2. How can you help this couple if they experience a negative outcome in the birthing

suite? What are your personal views on terminating or continuing a pregnancy with a
risk of a potential anomaly? What factors may influence your views?

3. With the influence of the recent Human Genome Project and the possibility of

predicting open spinal defects earlier in pregnancy, how will maternity care change in
the future?

NUR 445 Week 1 Discussion: Brainstorming Change Project

Step 1: Consider what change you would like to initiate that will benefit the healthcare community.

Discuss how you plan to facilitate making contact with a nurse leader and post a draft change project that willl impact quality improvement as  a narrative for students and faculty to review.

Lessons

Please complete all of the lessons and send the certificates. There should be a total of 5 lessons with the link provided. Please send the certificates when finished. After each lesson there are a few questions based on the reading.

EVIDENCE-BASED PROJECT, PART 2: ADVANCED LEVELS OF CLINICAL INQUIRY AND SYSTEMATIC REVIEWS

To Prepare:

  • Develop a PICO(T) question to address the clinical issue of interest you identified for the “search database Assignment” This PICOT question will remain the same for the entire course.
  • Use the key words from the PICO(T) question you developed and search at least four different databases in the Walden University Library. Identify at least four relevant systematic reviews or other filtered high-level evidence, which includes meta-analyses, critically-appraised topics (evidence syntheses), critically-appraised individual articles (article synopses). The evidence will not necessarily address all the elements of your PICO(T) question, so select the most important concepts to search and find the best evidence available.
  • Reflect on the process of creating a PICO(T) question and searching for peer-reviewed research.

The Assignment (Evidence-Based Project)

Part 2: Advanced Levels of Clinical Inquiry and Systematic Reviews

Create a decorative 6- to 7-slide PowerPoint presentation in which you do the following:

  • Identify and briefly describe your chosen clinical issue of interest.
  • Describe how you developed a PICO(T) question focused on your chosen clinical issue of interest.
  • Identify the four research databases that you used to conduct your search for the peer-reviewed articles you selected.
  • Provide APA citations of the four relevant peer-reviewed articles at the systematic-reviews level related to your research question. If there are no systematic review level articles or meta-analysis on your topic, then use the highest level of evidence peer reviewed article.
  • Describe the levels of evidence in each of the four peer-reviewed articles you selected, including an explanation of the strengths of using systematic reviews for clinical research. Be specific and provide examples.
