What does signing a card mean, and what questions should Addison ask before signing?

How can Addison establish good relationships with both nurse managers and staff nurses in an atmosphere in which collective bargaining has put these two groups in adversarial positions?

What skills and information will Addison need to navigate and make effective decisions in this hospital?

What provisions in a union contract are in a patient’s best interest as well as a nurse’s?

 Resources

To Prepare:

  • Review the Resources and reflect on your thinking regarding the role of the nurse in the design and implementation of new healthcare programs.
  • Select a healthcare program within your practice and consider the design and implementation of this program.
  • Reflect on advocacy efforts and the role of the nurse in relation to healthcare program design and implementation.
  • Tell us about a healthcare program, within your practice. What are the costs and projected outcomes of this program?
  • Who is your target population?
  • What is the role of the nurse in providing input for the design of this healthcare program? Can you provide examples?
  • What is your role as an advocate for your target population for this healthcare program? Do you have input into design decisions? How else do you impact design?
  • What is the role of the nurse in healthcare program implementation? How does this role vary between design and implementation of healthcare programs? Can you provide examples?

Develop an annotated bibliography related to an area of family nursing research of
interest to you and relevant to nursing practice and your final project (Family Nursing
Project Assignment).
2. Search literature for current (within the past ten years– exceptions can always be made in
dates for seminal articles of critical importance to the topic) research related to a specific
family health experience or family nursing care. Students may select the health care
setting, health condition, and family stage of development.
3. Create an annotated bibliography of a minimum of five research articles. The annotated
bibliography can include literature from related disciplines but should be pertinent to
nursing science. The student will create a summary paragraph listing and describing the
family nursing approaches/interventions/actions that are supported by the findings
described in the annotated bibliography.

Discussion #1 Response

One of the most important social factors that has shaped professional nursing in the U.S. is the changing role and social status of women. In the past, nursing was seen as just another part of a woman’s day-to-day life. Nurses often had little or no formal training or professional designation (Leddy, 2022).

But with women’s civil and political rights advancing through movements such as the suffrage movement and feminism, nursing changed. With the emergence of professional nursing schools at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th, nursing became a respectable career choice for women (Leddy, 2022) .The nurses’ contributions during World War II further elevated their status as they demonstrated their ability and commitment in healthcare settings (Lloyd, 2023).

As women’s rights and opportunities increased, nursing became a profession with standardized training, certifications, and professional associations (Lloyd, 2023).

Today, nursing is a women’s profession, and advances in gender equality have had a major impact on shaping the modern nursing workforce in the United States with a focus on education, specialty, and professionalism (Leddy, 2022).
