Throughout history, groups of people have received mistreatment that has little to do with who they are as people and more to do with their age, gender, socioeconomic status, skin color, or physical disability. People who face such challenges are more at risk for developing mental health and other life problems. Such problems might include substance abuse, trouble with law enforcement, and homelessness. Human services professionals may be motivated to assist such groups in addressing the challenges they face; however, helping may be difficult because of mistrust, cultural stigmas, and institutional barriers. Whatever the difficulties, social change agents, leaders, and advocates in the human services professions must find ways to help disadvantaged and vulnerable groups face challenges.

To prepare:

  • Select a disadvantaged or vulnerable population, and reflect on the challenges people within this population might face in society. This population can be local, regional, or from another country.
  • Select a code of ethics that might be applicable to this population, and identify specific guidelines that might guide your work with this population.

With these thoughts in mind:

By Day 4

Post a brief description of the disadvantaged or vulnerable population you selected. Then, explain three of the greatest challenges this population faces, as well as the influence that addressing each of the challenges might make in the lives’ of members of this population. Finally, identify a professional code of ethics and explain two guidelines from within that code that might pertain to working with this population. Be specific, and provide examples to illustrate your points.

The last element of the strategic plan consists of constructing the technicals. The technicals element includes items such as developing strategic goals, strategies, leading indicators of success, and performance targets. The technical elements represent the executable part of the strategic plan. As you begin to develop the technical elements, consider the goals related to internationalization and alliances.
To prepare:

  • Review Final Project: Developing a Strategic Plan –Part 2: The Technical Elements media in the Weekly Resources.
  • Review the results of your environmental scan and consider strategic goals that your agency might implement.
  • Think about how the organization might leverage globalization and alliances in its strategic goals.

By Day 7

The Assignment (23 pages):

Developing the technical elements for your Capstone Project will be a two-part Assignment. The first part will be completed and submitted in Week 7. The second part will be completed and submitted in Week 8.

      • Identify opportunities for alliances with other agencies or organizations.
      • State why the alliances are important.

In all likelihood, developmental and life transition issues will form the core of your work as a couple and family practitioner. These issues are those that couples and families typically encounter through common day-to-day living and may include being newly married, having a child, or sending a youngest child off into his or her own adulthood. They also may include common stressors, such as divorce, job loss, or death of a family member, just to name a few. Individuals across all cultures experience developmental and life transition issues in one way or another, and you will likely find yourself sitting across from a couple or family experiencing a similar life event to one you have encountered in your own life.

Despite the universality of many developmental and life transition issues, you should still keep in mind that there is no one way to experience a divorce, death, or job loss, nor is there one way to clinically encounter and assist a couple or family experiencing such issues. Different theoretical orientations may suggest different ways for addressing various scenarios, and you may have to modify your chosen theoretical orientation to work effectively in your professional practice.

For this Discussion, choose one life transition or developmental issue, and consider how you might modify your theoretical orientation and/or infuse interventions from other theories in order to address this issue.

By Day 3

Post a brief description of the life transition or developmental issue you selected and your chosen theoretical orientation. Then, explain how you might modify the theory-based interventions of your chosen theoretical orientation to work effectively with client(s) experiencing the issue you selected. Finally, explain the significant aspects of the life transition or developmental issue that influence how you would modify the application of your chosen theoretical orientation.

Certain elements of treatment planning for clients experiencing life transition and developmental issues may be easier than others. For instance, it may be obvious that a breadwinner’s job loss is the major concern facing a family. The more difficult part may be crafting clinical and treatment formulations for this issue that explain how it affects the clients, what needs they have, and how you, as a helping professional, plan to intervene (Sperry, 2005). As you examine life transition and developmental issues in this week and the next, use your theoretical orientation to conceptualize the scenarios presented and plan theory-based interventions.

For this Discussion, consider a brief case history of a couple or family (this can be one with which you are familiar or a fictional couple). Begin to conceptualize the couple’s or family’s problem through your theoretical orientation and identify interventions that you might use. Search the Walden Library for articles that might be used to justify the interventions you selected.

By Day 5

Post a brief description of the couple or family case. Explain the theories and theory-based interventions to couples and families experiencing life transition and developmental issues you will apply to this case. Then,

  • Develop and justify treatment plans for the fictional couple or family experiencing life transition and developmental issues.
  • Conceptualize the couple’s or family’s problem through your chosen theoretical orientation.
  • Design a treatment plan including short- and long-term goals

Compare and Contrast Instructional Design Models

Select three different instructional design models presented in the module and compare and contrast the models. How are they similar and different? What are the advantages and disadvantages of each? Support your thinking, citing two to three scholarly sources which you can ascertain from the CSU Global library.

Then, indicate which model you think you would use for your instructional design blueprint and ID proposal (Portfolio Project) and why. You may find you change your mind in Module 2 once you select the business or organization for which you will design, and that is OK. Provide your best analysis of your choice at this time.

Your total assignment should be 3-5 pages long, excluding the title and reference list pages, both of which should be part of your submission.
