Eddie is a loyal long tenured non-exempt employee working for the Director of Facilities. Her normal work hours at 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM with an hour for lunch. On most occasions, Eddie brings her lunch. She warms her lunch in the department’s kitchen, return to her desk to scan the web reading current news articles, shopping on QVC, reading people magazine and at times chatting with family members over the phone.   It is not uncommon that Eddie will answer the department phone, taking messages for her boss or dealing with vendors. There have been occasions when Eddie has even made copies of documents for some of the facilities workers. It only takes a few minutes to do these little things, Eddie is happy to help out and quickly returns to her lunch plans.

    Identify a leader in a health care setting who is responsible for  fiscal planning and financial management. This person may be solely  responsible for financial management or have multiple duties and  responsibilities that include fiscal planning and financial management.  Request an interview with that person.   2. Can you share with me all of your duties and responsibilities that involve fiscal planning and financial management?

  4. How do you approach operational budgeting? How does your organization approach capital budgeting?

Human Resources

George Jotson, sole shareholder and chief executive officer of Orbital Sprockets Incorporated, wanted to develop a qualified pension and profit sharing plan for his 1,250 employees. Of the 1,250 employees, only 30 employees earned over $100,000 in 2016. Jotson was concerned with high turnover in the manufacturing plants and so he wanted to restrict plan participation. Orbital’s qualified pension plan has the following requirements:

·Minimum plan entry age of 35.

·Minimum plan waiting period of two years.

·Plan vesting should be immediate

·Plan participation should be limited to employees who earn over $100,000.

Rosa Singleton, age 28, has been an employee of Orbital for the last 6 years. She earns $50,000 a year but wants to participate in the pension plan. When she is told she does not qualify, she sues Orbital.

The first step is to research the mobile phone market. Without knowing who is buying phones in certain market segments, Michelle won’t know how to market MM’s new product. Michelle knows that MM needs to determine who the target customer is for the new product. She knows that marketing research needs to be done as part of this market segmentation and product development processes, but she is not well-acquainted with some of the details that are involved in the processes. She has stopped by your office to ask some questions.

As a manager, you will have to use work experiences, advice from supervisors, and the organizational culture to support your decision. Organizational culture is the sum of the values and beliefs shared among employees.

Suppose you are a manager who is faced with having to reduce headcount (lay off one of your two employees) in your unit. Sales within the company have declined due to the downward spiral of the economy and each department within the organization is faced with making the same decision. Fortunately, you only have to cut one job; others are reducing more.

  • Mary is in her mid-20s, single, college graduate, she is very hard working and was in the top 10% of the performance ratings this year, she constantly volunteers to travel, work weekends and evenings. However, she supports political causes that could be viewed as contrary to the goals of the company.
  • Alice is in her mid-40s, has two young children, her husband is a doctor, her performance is good, and she has above average performance reviews. However, she has limited availability on weekends and limitations on overnight travel due to her volunteer work with local charities.

Daniel Goleman, a psychologist, was the first to popularize the trait emotional intelligence, sometimes referred to as EI. Emotional intelligence is a person’s capacity to be aware of her or his emotions and feelings towards others to influence their thinking and actions. The four components of EI are:

  • Self-awareness: This is your ability to read your own emotions accurately to know how your actions or lack thereof affect others.
  • Self-management: This is your ability to control or regulate your emotions and act with integrity.
  • Social-awareness: Gives you the ability to understand the needs of others and show empathy towards them.
  • Relationship management: this is your ability to communicate clearly and convincingly, reduce conflict and build strong bonds.
