Design a department organization chart for TIH’s inpatient and outpatient department.

In each module in this course, your SLP assignments will build upon each other. For your SLP assignments you will be creating an extensive PowerPoint presentation (PPT).

You have been named the Administrative Director at Trident International Hospital (TIH) and will be presenting your PPT to the Board of Directors at TIH for approval. TIH is restructuring to meet the current needs of their consumers.

For this assignment, you are responsible for creating a department organizational chart for both the inpatient and outpatient departments at TIH. Using the research and information presented in your Case 1 assignment, you should:

  1. Design a department organization chart for TIH’s inpatient and outpatient department.
    1. You may create your own or use the one of the templates at the following link: http://templatelab.com/organizational-chart-templates/#.
    2. Include in the charts at least 2 units in each department, e.g., acute inpatient units, inpatient rehabilitation, skilled nursing, etc. (An example of a department organization chart can be access here: http://annals.org/data/Journals/AIM/20209/10FF4.jpeg)
  2. In the slides following each chart you are to:
    1. Describe the personnel that will staff these units.
    2. Explain the importance of having your chosen units.
    3. Explain how the chosen units meet the needs of health care consumers.

Your PPT should be professional and provide substantial information about the two departments at TIH.

Your presentation should be at least 5-6 slides (not including the title and reference slide).  Speaker notes are required.

SLP Assignment Expectations

  1. Conduct additional research to gather sufficient information to support your design of your department organization chart.
  2. Limit your PPT to a maximum of 6 slides.
  3. Support your SLP with peer-reviewed articles, with at least 3-4 references. Use the following source for additional information on how to recognize peer-reviewed journals:

List the pros and cons of Fair Trade for the following actors (expected research on this, not only your opinion. your opinion must be based on research) – 2.5 points

In our next class I will take 5 minutes to answer questions about the assignment.

Best,

Questions

1) Search what companies ‘roast/package’ or sell Fair Trade Certified coffee in the U.S. (at least 20 coffee shops, roasters, corporations and 10 retail stores). Discuss how mainstream Fair Trade certified coffee is nowadays in U.S. (possibly use market data on coffee sales over time). – 1 point

2) Compare the prices of the Fair Trade coffees identified in number 1 (all of them by category/ coffee shop, package powder, etc) with a similar coffee that is not Fair Trade. Discuss the results. – 1 point

3) Based on the previous analysis, what do you think was the decision of the Fair Trade Organization (discussed in the case, assume the case was written in 2008): did they make Fair Trade coffee mainstream? Explain if the decision had the negative effects expected. (use data on industry analysis, Euromonitor etc). – 2 points

4) Evaluate the fair trade standard for agriculture – https://www.fairtradecertified.org/business/standards/agricultural-production-standard (compare with GRI indicators in all major areas). Explain how the standards differ (more comprehensive/less, stricter or not, etc) than the GRI. Fair trade says that they pay a fair price. Is there mention of a living wage on the standards? – 2.5 points

5)List the pros and cons of Fair Trade for the following actors (expected research on this, not only your opinion. your opinion must be based on research) – 2.5 points

Write a three-page report describing your analysis and rationale for your decision. The three pages need to include your Excel spreadsheet.

You will need to complete and submit this project individually. In class, you will be able share ideas and collaborate with other students selecting the same topic. But the written report must be you own work and submitted through an assignment dropbox using Turnitin antiplagiarism software.

Describe a real-world situation that incorporates the use of a job analysis or design strategy to attract and retain quality talent. How effectively does this strategy support the notion of strategic human resources?

Thinking about your past employment opportunities, have you ever wondered what qualifications and skills were necessary for a job? Now, consider as a manager why it would be important to know of all of the necessary qualifications of a new position prior to hiring? How does effective job design contribute to employee retention?

This week, you have been introduced to the process of completing a job analysis. This information can then be used for two primary outcomes: a) job descriptions and b) job specifications.

With these thoughts in mind:

  • Select a topic from this week’s readings that interests you the most.
  • Consider a real-world situation that relates to or could be addressed utilizing primary concepts from the assigned readings.
By Day 3

Post your response. Your post should be approximately 200–250 words in length. Include the following:

  • Does job analysis benefit an organization? Why or why not?
  • Explain how job design assists with attracting, selecting, and retaining quality talent.

Provide a historical overview of the facts of the Branch Davidian Standoff.

For this assignment, you will analyze a well-known and widely debated incident where policing style played a factor. You will need to do basic research on the Branch Davidian Standoff, which took place in Waco, Texas, in 1993. Then, analyze the case according to the instructions below.

1) Provide a historical overview of the facts of the Branch Davidian Standoff.

2) Analyze the factor of police negotiation during the siege.

3) Explain how non-law-enforcement personnel (e.g., compound residents, media) impacted the efforts of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) to end the siege.

4) Discuss how, in retrospect, the siege could have been handled differently by the FBI and ATF agencies to produce a different result.

5) Imagine if a similar incident took place today. Discuss how changing police styles enables law enforcement to adapt to changes in society.

You must use at least three peer review credible sources to support your case study. All sources used must be properly cited. Your case study should present an insightful and thorough analysis, contain a strong argument and evidence, and show correlation to concepts learned in this unit.

Your case study must be a minimum of three pages in length, not counting the title page and references page. Your case study, including all references, should be formatted in APA Style.

What seems to be the core issue (from an Enneagram perspective) that is problematic with Brea from what you know of her and what might you suggest that could help her?

Brea is a 25-year-old medical student. She’s 5’6”, with large kind green eyes and a curvy but proportionate figure. Brea has a small, straight across but kind mouth and often wears glasses. Brea describes herself as “kind, private, caring and perceptive” and has always wanted to be a doctor as long as she can remember because she says it’s very important for her to “help others” and to “be of service”. Brea says that she has very compassionate but processes emotions in a detached way and that many others don’t understand her so she has few close friends. Lately she’s been feeling overworked and stressed because in addition to her medical school coursework she volunteers at a local animal shelter where they’ve been demanding more of her time because they’ve been short staffed. Brea, although she loves to administer to others as much as possible, she doesn’t like too many obligations placed on her time. In fact, obligations make her feel overwhelmed and frantic and she seeks to avoid getting entangled with people too much because she feels invaded. She has quite a bit of trouble managing her need to help others and healing tendencies towards her desire to distance herself and be alone and as a result has found herself skipping out on some important classes and some of her volunteer shifts at the shelter because she’s been having frequent sinus infections and sore throats. She feels like if she tells others of being overwhelmed she won’t be listened to and that nobody really cares what she thinks anyway and believes that if she asked for what she needs that nobody would give it to her anyway. Lately she’s been having fantasies of moving away where nobody knows her and where nobody can ask anything of her. She’s felt that even though she would miss her family and friends it would be easier so she could live an unassuming life and be left to pursue her interests in private. She hasn’t told anyone else but she’s considered switching to a small university in another state and getting a graduate degree in neurobiology so she can study the biochemical nature of empathy and caregiving, something that is both personally and intellectually fascinating to her. Brea also finds something exciting about moving to a place where nobody knows her but is disturbed by the slight pleasure she feels when she thinks of leaving behind all of her human entanglements.

What is Brea’s type and tritype?

What is her likely instinctual subtype?

What is her character structure and archetype?

Any chakra imbalances you can pinpoint from the description?

What seems to be the core issue (from an Enneagram perspective) that is problematic with Brea from what you know of her and what might you suggest that could help her?

Consider how you could partner with HR to mitigate situations of sexual harassment in your workplace. In addition, think about specific steps you could take to diminish inappropriate behaviors in the workplace

Julie has been a nurse at Memorial Hospital for three years. During that time, she has developed productive relationships with her colleagues and has earned a reputation for providing exceptional care to patients. One day she approaches you, her manager, and asks to speak in private. Once you are alone, Julie explains that over the past couple of months she has heard a physician and two nurses repeatedly make disparaging remarks about people who are homosexual. She appears visibly upset as she tells you this. Julie says that the situation has become so uncomfortable that she no longer feels safe in this environment.

Does this scenario reflect a possible case of sexual harassment? How would you respond to Julie, and what steps might you take next?

Sexual harassment is an important topic in today’s organizations–one that is often addressed through HR presentations and trainings. However, even for experienced nurse managers and HR professionals, it can be challenging to recognize some of the behaviors and actions that may indicate sexual harassment. Nurses in leadership and management positions have a critical responsibility to become attuned to the various interactions that can be problematic, including inappropriate remarks and jokes, improper fraternization, quid pro quo situations, and potentially offensive images.

To prepare

  • Review the articles, “Sexual Harassment – A Touchy Subject for Nurses,” “Why Are Nurses Leaving? Findings from an Initial Qualitative Study on Nursing,” and “Bullying, Harassment, and Horizontal Violence in the Nursing Workforce.” Consider sexual harassment situations most commonly experienced by nurses.
  • Think about a work environment with which you are familiar. Have you witnessed or experienced any behaviors that–perhaps with the benefit of hindsight and increasing awareness–may be construed as sexual harassment, even if you did not think of them that way at the time? Do you recall any instances in which you might have intentionally or unintentionally contributed to or participated in an environment that tolerated harassment against one or more individuals? If so, what were your thoughts and feelings at the time? How, perhaps, has your perspective since shifted?
  • Select one of the following options:
    • Option 1: Conduct research via the Walden Library, or other scholarly sites, to select an article that presents an authentic example of workplace sexual harassment.
    • Option 2: Identify an authentic example of suspected or proven sexual harassment from your professional experience.
  • Conduct research related to your selected example to assess the ramifications that may result from instances of sexual harassment.
  • Consider how you could partner with HR to mitigate situations of sexual harassment in your workplace. In addition, think about specific steps you could take to diminish inappropriate behaviors in the workplace.

To complete

By Day 7

Submit a 3- to 5-page paper in which you do the following:

  • Describe an authentic example of suspected or proven sexual harassment.
    • Explain how this specific instance of sexual harassment impacted the workplace.
    • Identify at least two legal ramifications that could have (or did) result from this situation and how they could (or did) negatively impact the workplace.
    • Briefly explain other ramifications (e.g., organizational culture, staff relationships, individual and team performances, patient safety, quality of care) that could have (or did) result because of this specific instance.
    • Describe the actions that were taken to resolve the situation, if applicable.
  • Formulate an action plan that can be used to mitigate and/or ameliorate behaviors that constitute sexual harassment.
    • Based on your example, explain how you would educate staff on the identification and prevention of inappropriate behaviors. Describe at least two specific steps you would take to diminish similar sexual harassment situations.
    • Describe at least two ways you could partner with HR to effectively accomplish your action plan.

Based on your understanding of effective leadership, how do you think your representation captures those qualities or characteristics necessary to lead effectively?

Review “Example Leadership Models.” As you review the models, consider what you think are the most significant differences between servant leadership models and other models. Then either create your own graphic to visually represent your understanding of servant leadership or revise one of the existing graphics so that it better represents your understanding. If you revise an existing model, be sure to credit the original source.

Once you have created your model, compose a brief analysis (500 words) that addresses the following:

  1. What are the unique characteristics of servant leadership and how do these elements make it different from other leadership models?
  2. Define the paradox of servant leadership, and explain where you see this paradox present in your own representation.
  3. Based on your understanding of effective leadership, how do you think your representation captures those qualities or characteristics necessary to lead effectively?

Submit the graphic of your model with the written analysis.

How will accomplishing these objectives support your success in management?

In your own words, answer this unit’s discussion questions in a main post (recommended minimum 300 words)
